It is in homage to Yuri Gagarin, the first man to travel into space during the Vostok 1 mission🛰️, on April 12, 1961, that the Petrodvorets factory🏭 affixes the name Raketa (which means “rocket”🚀 in Russian) to its new models. This luxury brand is currently one of the few to manufacture all of the components of its watches.
In the world of vintage watches, the Raketa Copernicus established itself in the early 1980s as a true icon of Soviet design and engineering, paying homage to the visionary🔮astronomer Nicholas Copernicus and his heliocentric theory of the universe. At a time when space exploration fascinated the whole world🗺️, this watch celebrated the revolutionary ideas of Copernicus with boldness and originality.
From Yuri Gagarin's historic spaceflight to the many Soviet space missions🛰️, space exploration was a fundamental part of Soviet identity. Watches like the Raketa Copernicus were inspired by this 'space race' mentality, celebrating scientific prowess and innovation through objects that citizens could wear with pride.
