Street Art in Lisbon : Places and artists

ā€œIn 2026, Lisbon confirms its place among the great world capitals of urban art.

According to the international Street Art Cities Awards 2025 ranking, the Portuguese capital is now the 3rd best city in the world for street art, behind Madrid and Athens, and ahead of Berlin, London, New York and Paris.

With more than 1,060 works listed, Lisbon is today one of the most exciting destinations in Europe for discovering urban art.

But what makes Lisbon street art unique is not just the quantity of works: it is the way in which it mixes with the heritage, architecture and identity of the city..."

šŸ§œā€ā™€ļøā€‹Discover Calypso, the mural in Lisbon nominated for the best urban art in the worldā™€ļøā€‹

ā€œThe beauty of this mural lies in the balance between PatrĆcia Mariano'sšŸ‘©ā€šŸŽØvibrant technique and the depth of her chosen theme, with the artist using this mythological figure to weave a narrative about sustainability and the water cycle⛲, with the work inviting passersby to reflect on environmental engagement and the preservation of natural resourcesā™»ļø.ā€

Lisbon is truly an open-air museum whose exhibitions can be ephemeral. Some of these street art works no longer exist, but we have kept them, memorized them, engraved them forever, for posterity!

Some are printed on different supports, such as photo paper or azulejos, and if you feel like traveling and visiting Alfama, do not hesitate, come and stop by Bababobo, discover our handicraft store!ā˜ŗļø

We discovered this wall quite by chance when we got lost in the Zambujal neighborhood, and our surprise was great when we knewn that this work, realised by the graffiti artist Ricardo Romero, was nominated for the 2024 Street Art Cities Award. We also have a special affection for it, because it takes us back to the time when another great artist lived with her family in Lisbon🫶

ā€œThe title is a collaboration by the American artist Madonna with the Orquestra Batukadeiras, a group of women from Cape Verde residing in Portugal, who perpetuate the musical tradition of the batuque.

⚔Genre: The song is batuque style, a genre of traditional Cape Verdean music and dance created by women. It also incorporates afrobeat influences.

⚔Structure: It is based on a ā€œcall and responseā€ structure, where Madonna sings and the Batukadeiras choir responds to her in Cape Verdean Creole.

⚔Meaning: The lyrics deal with the fight against adversity and resistance. A specific phrase ("Get that old man / put him in a jail") has often been interpreted as political criticism.

⚔Meeting: Madonna discovered the Orquestra Batukadeiras through the musician Dino d'Santiago while she was living in Lisbon.

⚔Co-writing: The track was written by Madonna, her son David Banda and her long-time collaborator Mirwais.

We hope you enjoyed ā˜ŗļøā€‹

Our Store

It is in the unmissable Alfama, whose colorful houses and winding cobbled streets that remind its Moorish origins give it its picturesque charm, that we set up our store in 2013.

This neighborhood which has remained authentic, nestled in the very heart of Lisbon, lives at nightfall to the rhythm of fado, a song full of emotion recounting love, life, nostalgia for the past, listened to in establishments dedicated to this art and tradition, is also a reflection of the soul of its city.

In our premises you will find local crafts, portuguese tiles, sardines, swallows, cork and ceramic...

In addition to essential souvenirs our own creations ranging from photography to jewelry complete our eclectic choice, some pieces of which are offered for sale on the Etsy platform.
